Romanian inventions that changed the world!
Each country probably has its own inventions that helped in one way or another the world to improve and made human’s life much easier. But what was Romania’s contribution?
I would like to start with Petrache Poenaru. He was a politician and agronomist and he created the first fountain pen in 1827. Also, he he designed the national flag of Romania. If we talk about cybernetics, Stefan Odobleja was the inventor of psycho cybernetics. Using his rationality and his intuition, he created a cybernetic model. His work had a big contribution in many scientific fields. Quite amazing, right?!
Moving forward to medicine, Romania also had a big contribution: insulin. It was discovered in 1922 by Nicolae Paulescu. Although his own beliefs on Jewish people made it impossible to receive the Nobel Prize, we can all be grateful for his great contribution. The Davila tincture that is used for treatment of cholera was invented by another Romanian, Carol Davila.
Another field that got me all interested is aerodynamics. Henri Coanda, engineer and pioneer in aviation built an experimental aircraft and invented the jet engine in 1910. The airport in Bucharest is named after him. Also, the gas laser was discovered by Ion Agarbiceanu! And let’s not forget about Aurel Persu, who built the first car to have wheels inside its aerodynamic line.
We all enjoy going to cinema to watch a good 3D movie, right? Well, if we go back in time, 3D images were invented by Sir Charles Wheatstone, but Theodor Ionescu was the one that adapted them for cinema and television in 1936.
The list goes on, but these are the most important ones, I might say. If we sit a little bit and think about it, it’s so amazing and fascinating what the human mind can do!
