The World War II with the eyes of a Cypriot.
Hello world !
Today I went in town for my Imap. I was very impressed and touched by an exposition about World War II which is visible at the museum of history of Cypriot Coinage. It gives me another point of view on that war 😊 See below some pictures:

This exposition is available in English and Greek. It shows you how the soldiers were living and give you more information about the British’s occupation in Cyprus. I have learned that during the war Cyprus has welcomed Jews. It was very heart touching.
However, what I enjoyed the most was the forgotten walls with the stories of different people. Most of them went to the war because they did not have another choice. They were very poor, and the army was a “good” way to survive. I was impressed by that women who became a nurse and worked on the front. Some of them are still alive other are dead. You can hear their voices, even if you do not understand Greek you feel the emotion.
It reminds me my Grand mother Yolande, who has grown during the world war II. She has passed away in 2015 and she used to tell me stories about that period. How difficult it was to survive. How difficult it was to communicate. She used to say that we have to cherish the present because the future is uncertain!
Thanks to that exposition, I have understood that the Cypriots was fighting the Nazis on Italy. I have also understood that they were not humans if not a number CY113322 for example. Turkish Cypriots or Greek Cypriots were not important. Unity was the mindset.
Well, to sum up, I really enjoyed this visit. It is amazing to see that most of the islands have the same background. It makes you realize that we are not so different. So, in this day of Thanksgiving, I would like to thank all the veterans that have allowed us to live in this present.
See you 😊
