Trip to Ayia Napa

Last weekend we spent 2 days travelling around Ayia Napa area because we like exploring this island and, as soon as we can, we go out for a sweet escape from the city.

We took the bus early in the morning from Solomou Square in Nicosia on Saturday and after almost one hour and fifteen minutes we got there; the weather was a bit cloudy and, as the high season has not started yet, there were not that many tourists so we could enjoy the trip!

After checking in the hotel, we decided to be heading to the sea caves and Cave Greco and enjoy these amazing places. We walked through the touristic part of the city of Ayia Napa and we noticed that everything here seems to be not very distinctive; a lot of restaurants, stores, hotels very similar to each other and white huge buildings that left us with an overwhelming feeling. So we left this area to go towards the magical landscapes that our Lonely Planet guide promised we would be enjoying and…we were not disappointed. We firstly got to the Sea Caves with the famous Love Bridge, a natural bridge created by nature become one of the most popular spot in Cyprus; we ran across a lot of photographers and couple taking pictures and taking advantage of this romantic place (unfortunately we were not there for the sunset but we can imagine how breath-taking it is); we got to know (after we got back from the trip ;( ) that there’s a legend according to which if you kiss your loved one in the middle of the arch and make a wish, it is supposed to turn into reality.

We continued our stroll along the coast and we admired a lot of memorable seascapes till we got to Cave Greco, a naturalistic place where you can walk, take a dive, enjoy amazing views, visit the Agioi Anargyroi chapel and see the fabulous Kamara tou Koraka’ bridge (the perfect place to take lovely pictures and witness how powerful the nature is in creating astonishing things). Finally we reached the Blue Lagoon, another great place with an amazingly transparent water and perfect views. We walked a lot and from the hotel we were almost 4 hours away but even if we were tired, we were excited because we visited picturesque places we promised to get back to in the future.

We dedicated our second day to visit some beaches in Ayia Napa; Nissi Beach, Pernera, Makronissos and Landa and they are wonderful even if we imagine that during summer these places are stormed by the tourists and maybe they are not as quiet as we found them in low season. At the end of the trip through these beautiful beaches, on the way back to catch the last bus, we stopped to visit Ayia Tekhla chapel and we enjoyed its typical Greek churches’ colours. The view was great and we took a lot of pictures!

The overall experience was very good and we suggest everyone who find himself around to visit, it definitely worth the visit (but be prepared to walk and walk and walk!!!).
