The spectacular thing of learning new languages

As you may know or not, every EVS volunteer has the right to have lessons of the language used in the project or the mother tongue of the country they are in but how the lessons are giving it’s not so strict about it and some projects are giving online lessons.

Luckly and because our organization is one of the best, it is giving us actually greek lessons (because we are in Cyprus) with an actual teacher. We have almost two hours per week and I feel that this way of having live contact with a language teacher we learn much more of the language itself. Not only know for a few days,no…Actual learning.

I am a person like many of you. I love everything that is intercultural and I am very curious and passionate about other people and their cultures, their languages and their habits so having this opportunity to not only live like a local person but actually learn the basic for having a dialogue with a local person is something that I feel very grateful and privileged.

I already know a lot of it and I never want to stop practice greek so it’s another tool for my future self and live.

REASONS AND BENEFITS OF LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE

-Learning is fun and rewarding

-Ever had a smile on your face whenever you learn something new? I am always having and because I feel very good I always dig to have that smile on my face. If you want to learn just for yourself you will feel relaxed in learning and probably you will feel that you have more knowledge now. You can also make new friends and have different opportunities.

-Cultural Enrichment

-You will find so many diferences between your culture and others and that is amazing to realize. Also, locals really love when you speak a bit of their language because you are not only taking something out for you but also giving it to the world. When you get back and tell your stories to the ones in your country, you will realize not only you are different but much more aware of how is it the life in other country in a way more developed than just a tourist.

-Discovering a new side of yourself

– You will feel your inhibitions getting out of yourself. You will get out of the confort zone and you can show different sides of you and how you express yourself in different ways, according to the language you are speaking for exemple the inotation, the accent or simply the gestures.

-Understanding better the world around you

– A new language offers you a new perspective view of the world. You are more aware of the civic situations and it actually gives you new insights of your own native language and consequently questioning about the identity of the self.

-Useful for the future

-It can be useful for your present self by listening and understanding music or watching movies from other languages. And of course, you will have more opportunities for living in other place or for getting a job that needs or sees it as a plus.

-Better memory and other psychologycal motives

– It is known that practicing your brain can develop many vital parts of it and increase your memory while decreasing a lot of memory diseases like Alzheimer and dementia. You will increase your hability of listening and the sensibility of the speaking. You will focus more and will be able to do more tasks simultaneously.

What are you waiting for learning new languages? It can be a bit hard on the beggining but remember you’re really smart and nothing in your life is impossible on conquering. You can do it!!
