NiMAC
NiMAC an acronym that stands for Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre is located in the building of the Old Powerhouse, in the old town part of the capital. This arts centre was inaugurated on 14 January of 1994 and besides being the oldest Comteporary Centre it is also the biggest.
Since 1994 the centre never stopped showing art exhibitions, presented more than eighty of modern and contemporary art with the participation of local artists and also abroad and the centre actually won in 1994 the Europa Nostra Award.
Right now, NiMAC is presenting two exhibitions, the Layers of Visibility and Ar(t)chaeology.
The layers of visibility exhibition has the duration from 19 October of 2018 to 12 January of 2019. Personally it was my favorite exhibition because it talked through pictures and an audio documentary about the life in Cyprus, since their culture is very related to the hellenic and islamic culture and how it is for a cypriot to be engaged with it without feeling confusion in their heads. Also the pictures were very pretty and it enlights how Cyprus may not be a magestic city but it has a essence of truthness and every corner has it’s magic.
The ar(t)chaeology exhibition also has the same duration and it’s talked through pictures about the correlation of the objects and artefacts and the beauty and asthetic art on it. There is some more objetive ways in the official narrative of the object and the story of the past of it, but also the subjective way of what those artefacts can be meaned to the people.
Overall I really enjoyed this place and for sure I will go to the next exhibitions, which are not yet in the NiMAC website but you can always check here http://nimac.org.cy
The NiMAC centre is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 21pm so you have a lot of opportunities to visit it.
