The CVAR is comprised of a four-storey exhibition area including artistic representations from Venetian period (1489-1571) until Postmodernism & Deconstructivism ( 1960-2000+).
Visiting this exhibition you can explore more than 1000 paintings of visitors to Cyprus during 18th -20th centuries. You can journey through time while you rediscover Cypriot costumes of the 18th-20th centuries. You can also examine over 5000 books of history, travel and art on Cyprus and the Near East including Greece, Turkey, Syria and Egypt. If you are interested you can also study archival material, including photographs and primary documents, on Cyprus history including the Colonial period.
For me it was a real pleasure to discover the development of Cypriot clothes during centuries and also to notice similarities and differences between old Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot clothes.
Another part of the exhibition I was impressed with, it was the one dedicated to Caterina Cornaro last monarch of the Kingdom of Cyprus. I was amazed about the beauty of the portraits and in the same time curious about this part of Cyprus History.
At the end of your tour you can spend some time in library, located on the 3rd floor. It is a big quiet room, full of books with a perfect atmosphere for study.
The CVAR has also a research centre, a conference hall, a cafe, a roof terrace lounge and a Gift shop, Located on Ermou Street, within the historic walled city of Nicosia. In addition to its permanent collections, the CVAR hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures, films and other special events highlighting the work of local and international artists and scholars.
