On arrival training experience
So, on every EVS you should have an arrival training when you arrive to your new experience and a mid term training, when you are already here for a few months. And you guessed it right, I had my arrival training a few days ago.
Where to be exactly? Kakopetria!!! One of the many villages that Cyprus has to give us, a small village that opened my heart to the beauty of it.
For me this was one of the best experiences here in Cyprus. I think it really overcame my expectations.
I stayed with two girls from my project and more 22 people from other evs projects during 5 days.
At first I was shy and afraid with not meeting anyone and not being able to make friends but it seems everyone is already a friend of mine. The group of young people were amazing and very different from each other so I think I can also learn from it. Of course I already knew that so many people from such a variety of different countries would be interesting to find the similar and opposite things we have to share but it amazed how real it can be. I was very curious to each one of them, their culture, their dreams, their background and their minds on seeing the world. It helped me to not be so stubborn about my only way of thinking and see that others can also be correct with a different criteria on the same subject, for example.
The accomodation and the food were absolutely marvelous and I couldn’t ask more for it. The village is really pretty and the hotel was not also pretty but very cosy and comfortable. Of course it helped a lot to be even better because of the people working there. Anything we needed they were there for us. Plus, on the long nights we had there, in front of the hotel, sitting on the chairs or on the stairs, we shared thoughts on a lot of things.
About the trainers and the trainings itself I couldn’t be more happy and with the feeling of accomplishment. I think I had a good relationship with my trainers. They were not professors even though they were teaching us. They were not supervisors even though they were always concerned about our well being. They were human beings with us. Providing us knowledge in a fun and more relaxing and pratical way and communicating with us outside the time of the trainings, explaining us a lot of new things, such as more about the history of Cyprus. I feel that actually the tasks on the trainings helped me accomplish a lot of sense in team building and expanding my mind, whether in creativiness, whether in civic awareness, whether into myself.
I thanks to all the people that are helping this all thing be possible for a lot of us like me. I’m very grateful and forever changed.
(And wait for my weekly video about this same experience. It’s gonna be fun and with a lot of sentiment).
