Short escapes: Lefkara
This time I will write about our short escape in Lefkara, another beautiful village situated at the foot of Trodoos Mountains in the south eastern region of Cyprus.
The name of Lefkara village derives from the colour of the surrounding calcareous rocks: “White rocks = Lefkara” and is known as the place where folk needlecraft art was born- the famous “ lefkaritiko”- the reputation of has gone beyond the frontiers of Cyprus.
Of course I was impressed about the embroidery especially because it looks like o part of Romanian’s embroidery, and it was really nice to see this similarities. I also liked the multitude of silver items that you could find in all the stores.
What I really appreciated and admired it was the way that houses were preserved and refurbished in their traditional style. I found out that the municipalities and owners work together to preserve their homes in their traditional style.
It was a real pleasure to walk on the little tiny streets, making thousands of pictures with those amazing stone houses. All the balconies, windows and doors were decorated with flowers and vintage objects. I felt as if I was walking in a fancy, old village with a fairy-tale air.
If you want to discover the beauties of Cyprus or if you want a romantic journey or only a relaxing weekend next to the mountains, Lefkara is the perfect place for you .
