Is there life on Mars?

Well,apart from being a very good song and me personally liking it, we are not gonna talk about David Bowie and his hits.

Instead of it,the only noise we’re gonna hear is the sound of us,space nerds jumping up and down of excitment because I have another special thing to talk with you.

This summer in July, Italian scientists from the European Space Agency announced their discovery of a body of water on Mars. You know Mars right? The planet next to us that we are always wondering if it has the possibility to have life in there or if it did in previous times.

Well, with this discovery every wonder will be stronger than ever.

This group of scientist found not only a dribble of water but a lake. Of course it’s not the first time someone found water on Mars but not like this new founding…a big stable 20 kilometers of body of water, under the surface of the planet!

Detecting the lake was possible through an equipment called Marsis, which sends radar signals that penetrate the surface and ice sheets of the planet and then interpret the reflected waves.

According to the authors of the study, between May 2012 and December 2015 were captured signs that show the existence of the lake in a region called Planum Australe

So what does this tell us?

Interestingly enough if you didn’t know we actually have underground lakes here on earth and in these lakes there are very tiny microorganisms that live in there and that microbial live is able to live in very much cold water and because the temperature of Mars is very cold, it is a possibility that it may have there also microorganisms and so, a kind of biological deposite.

Although every search on other planets besides Earth,revolve around if there is any water (for it to has living beings there), finding that there is actually water on Mars is not a fully evidence of life. But it does create new fascinating probabilities.

According to the experts, the water is too cold for us to survive…and probably also too salty. But if there’s some source of heat below the surface that we don’t know about, it could mean that the water is warmer and probably less salty than we think. Maybe to the point life could survive.

Of course, sending a mission to Mars to look for life a kilometer and half below the surface is easier said than done. But not impossible!
